The Backyard

Sponsored by Bruce & Jolene McCaw

A familiar and fantastic indoor backyard invites younger visitors into a world combining the comforts of home and the wild wonders of nature. Animals are the gentle guardians of this area, peeking from their homes as kids build blanket forts, climb and slide on oversized leaves, and plunge their hands into a garden tub of sensory delights. Giant birdhouses beckon young children inside to investigate the natural world as they sort, connect, zip, press, and turn their way through stimulating activities. Babies and crawlers explore new textures within the safety of a huge basket built just for them. The Backyard reflects current research into early childhood development, and parent tips and resources abound here and throughout the museum.

The Garage is a collaborative learning environment where children can nurture their scientific and creative talents.

Waterways

Sponsored by Puget Sound Energy

All ages will be drawn to the compelling magic of water.  Pump it and pour it, spin it and spray it!  Build bridges, dams, and waterfalls. Race boats down the rocky stream, or splash in the series of stepped pools.  Create water paintings on oversized rocks.  Make music with water chimes and water drums.   You and your budding engineers and artists will enjoy exploring the physical and cultural properties of water in this captivating space.

KidsCount

Sponsored by The City of Bellevue

KidsCount is an exciting new exhibit which teaches children that every vote counts. By using a touch-screen, children can vote on things that are important to them, submit their votes and see how other museum visitors have voted. Children will also be able to see the impact of their vote when we vote on names for new exhibits or other changes in the Museum. The ballot will be changing often so be sure to cast your vote!
