Stay safe this Halloween!

Halloween is one of KidsQuest's favorite times of year! We love our Halloween Spooktacular where you can expect kids and adults in costume, our Spooky Cake Walk, Dr. Jekyll's Laboratory and our Mad Scientists each year! We also look forward to Factoria Mall's Halloween Event with Radio Disney offering activities and prizes, merchants handing out treats and special deals, and children trick-or-treating throughout the Mall! Although Halloween can be fun and exciting, it is also important to keep safety in mind when heading out in the crowds to trick-or-treat.

According to the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, kids are four times more likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than on any other night of the year. So, as you hit the streets with your little ghosts, fire fighters and princesses, here are some tips to help make this year's Halloween enjoyable and safe for the whole family.

  • Choose brightly colored costumes to keep your kids visible
  • Attach a flashlight to your child's costume
  • Make sure all parts of the costumes are labeled "flame resistant"
  • Decorate your child's costume and candy bag with reflective tape or stickers
  • Be sure hats and masks don't interfere with vision
  • Accompany children under 12
  • For children over 12, establish a route and curfew with them
  • Label children's clothing with name, phone number, and address (on the inside) in case you get separated from one another
  • Teach your child to trick-or-treat only at homes with outside lights that are turned on and to never enter anyone's home unless accompanied by an adult
  • Fill your child up with healthy food before heading out, this will prevent snacking on candy before it can be inspected by an adult
  • Head out after rush hour, there aren't as many cars on the road and more people will be at home answering their doors
  • Try to wrap it up by 8:00 PM, home owners are ready to retire for the night

Those are very nice tips this coming Halloween. Thanks for sharing this. We always must think the safety of our children.
