It's been said that kids spell love T-I-M-E

With today's busy lifestyles, many parents and grandparents work to spend more "quality time" with their children or grandchildren. But what is quality time? "Quality time" is time spent doing an activity that is meaningful to the parent and child. It is time when family members really get to know each other. Quality time is spent focusing attention on the other person and sharing thoughts and feelings.

Spending time with our children can be as fun and educational for us as it is for them. Much of the child's basic learning takes place in the many informal situations that occur daily in the life of the family. These informal occasions for learning include doing ordinary things, such as getting dressed, taking the dog for a walk, talking over the day's happenings, running errands, and bath time. The activity does need not be costly, but rather one that strengthens the parent child bond. Meal time is another opportunity for quality family time. Research has repeatedly proven that families who make a habit of sitting down together for at least one meal a day have happier, healthier children and stronger family relationships.

As for parents looking for a way to work time with the kids into a busy schedule, there are creative ways in which it can be done. One way is to write down your schedule and see if there is any way to make modifications to it. If there is, try to set aside the same times every single week in order to create a routine with the family. This is a great way to ensure that all members of the family are available to participate in family activities. There are many ways a parent can spend time with their kids, it just takes is a few modifications and some great ideas.

Fun family activities are also important for building those lasting memories of childhood that your children will carry into adulthood and out of your home. What stories do you want your children to be able to tell their children? What memories do you want your children to have? Happy childhood memories can help children build self esteem and overcome challenges in the future. Giving your children those lasting memories will help create a solid foundation to become the people you want them to be as adults.

Spending time and energy focusing on family fun activities is a worthwhile activity for every parent because it helps strengthen family bonds, provides opportunities for learning, and creates lasting memories.

It's been said that kids spell "love" ... t-i-m-e, and I couldn't agree more.

So the next time you hear yourself thinking that you'll make it up to your daughter when she asks you to play "Candy Land" for the seven millionth time, or your son asks to play catch, remember: your kids are watching you, and it doesn't matter how young they are, they know how to spell the words love and quality.

They're both spelled T-I-M-E.
