The Picture Perfect Party

Nowadays, kids’ parties are not always simple affairs. For those of you ready to go all out, below are some fabulous ideas to get you started.

Decorate your cake and eat it too!

BdayCupcakesI love this idea: for an art-themed party (or any party), provide rainbow cupcakes with white frosting, plus decorating supplies like sprinkles, then let the kids design their own cupcakes. This is a great activity to keep the kids busy without toys and games. And, best of all, the creations are edible!

Cute (& Cheap!) Décor

BdayDecorWant flower-like centerpieces without having to buy the flowers, water them, or watch them wilt? Click here for directions on making some fantastic DIY centerpieces - quick and easy Cupcake Liner Pom Poms! You can also hang them from the ceiling to make lantern-like décor!

Smashing

BdayCakeEver heard of the term “smash cake”? A smash cake is a small, single-serving cake just for your littlest one to eat sans fork (ie: destroy). You can get a nicer one for the rest of your guests, but a smash cake is a little something sweet for the guest of honor, and an awesome idea for first birthdays. Some quick tips if you’re going to have a smash cake:
  • Don't expect the mess to stay on the table. Make sure to cover the floor too. And be forewarned – things WILL get messy!
  • Don’t worry about going over the top with the theme on this cake – avoid bright food coloring and plastic decorations (colored frosting can stain, and plastic decor should be removed) and stick with plain white.
  • On the big day, save the actual smashing until after the other festivities are out of the way – cleanup might take awhile!
  • And lastly - don’t forget your camera!
