Nature Explorers Camp

Last week was anything but dull at KidsQuest – the new Waterways exhibit opened, we had a furry visitor at Animal Encounters Storytime, and it was the very first week of summer camp!

Our 3-5 year old Nature Explorers were busy all week doing some amazing camp activities as they learned about water, animals, plants, weather, bugs and butterflies.

NatureExplorersbeakerOn Monday they explored what happens when colored water is suspended in a solid, observed how ice melts, created their own fish, and did water experiments using bubble tablets and packing peanuts.

NatureExplorersshellOn Tuesday they went wild with animals, touching real animal pelts and shells, making their own animal tracks and decorating monkeys.

NatureExplorersflowersOn Wednesday they were botanists, learning about the growth stages of plants, sorting leaves, planting their own gardens, and getting creative with tie-dye leaves. They even painted their own nature walk backpacks!

NatureExplorersmagnifyWhile we all were wishing for sunshine on Thursday, our Nature Explorers were learning about all kinds of weather. They observed how rain falls, explored the colors of the rainbow, experimented with wind to create colored water patterns, and created sun catchers. They even learned how heat can make things like beeswax soft, and painted their own pinwheels!

NatureExplorerssensoryLastly, they explored the world of bugs on Friday by checking out real crickets, making their own worms and butterflies, playing a matching game with insects, and creating insect themed messenger bags to take home.

Think that sounds like a lot for one week? Don’t forget camp also included playtime in the museum, circle time and storytime!

What busy campers!
