KQ Tech U Camp!
This was an awesome week and we're so excited we got to spend it with such great campers!
Monday's theme was What is a PicoCricket?
Since it was the first day of camp, we first got to know each other and spent some time thinking of rules to follow while in camp.
Then we learned the basics of programming our PicoCrickets! We now know how to...
Make a light-bulb light up, 'flicker' or alternate colors with sound and even turn off with sound!
Make music turn on with a switch (or an outside sound as the case may be).
Then we created CATS that "MEOW’" when we "pet" them...and one special cat that crowed like a rooster!

Tuesday's theme was Space, Dinosaurs and Sealife.
We first programmed our PicoCrickets around the theme of Space - creations ranged from planets or satellites that spun and lit up, to rockets that counted down from 10 and then "took off" (spun).
We then spent the afternoon creating Dinosaurs and Sealife with our PicoCrickets.
Creations included – octopuses that spun, squid and fish that sang or lit up with the touch of a button, and many dinosaurs whose tails spun, eyes lit up, some even played a song.
There was even a loch ness monster!

Wednesday's themes included Dreamhouse, Inventions and Nature.
Our Dreamhouse and Inventions themed creations ranged from a bed that shook to wake you up when it became light out, a dreamhouse whose lights came on and a doorbell that rang at the push of a button causing a dog to bark, and a dreamhouse that was actually a space rocket.
We then spent the afternoon creating around the Nature theme with our PicoCrickets.
Creations included – a woodland area complete with a woodpecker 'pecking', a raccoon 'squealing' and a very elaborate house for a small stuffed turtle. We also saw a snake that slithered, hissed and rattled it's rattle!

Thursday's theme was Cars.
We spent most of the day programming our PicoCrickets around the theme of Cars - the creations ranged from cars that began moving when buttons were pushed and stopped when it got dark, some reversed if it got dark and others reversed or stopped after a certain time. No matter what the process was we all had cars that ran! Hooray!

Our final day's theme was Amusement Park and Circus.
Our Amusement Parks and Circus themed creations included a ferris wheel (music included), a carousel (music included), a trapeze artist (music included), a bucking bronco ride, a carnival game (dubbed Bucket Ball), and a magic show (with a disappearing man).
For me it was special day because they were all asked to work with a partner and I saw spectacular brainstorming and team work!
