Dino-Mite Dinos!

Last week was the highly anticipated Dino-Mite Dinos Camp (and I do mean anticipated – this camp has been sold out since April!). Our Dino-Mite mornings were devoted to circle time, storytime, discovery stations, social interaction, museum playtime, experiments and, of course, lots and lots of dinosaurs!

DinoSandOn Monday campers learned to be paleontologists. They explored bones and fossils using microscopes, experimented with sand, created fossil replicas, uncovered buried fossils, and worked together to build different kinds of dinosaurs.

On Tuesday campers went on the big dig, discovering dinosaur bones and a Pteronadon skeleton replica. They learned how to make imprints in tar, painted their own fossils, and even found dinosaur eggs to camouflage!

DinoBoneThere was no slowing down as campers made it halfway through the week. On Wednesday they learned who the dinosaurs were by constructing a large T-Rex found in KidsQuest’s Backyard exhibit, identifying skeletons found in the sand, and experimenting with textures to replicate dinosaur skin. They even painted dinosaur eggs and built nests to protect them!

On Thursday, in order to learn even MORE about dinosaurs and their habits, campers studied what dinosaurs ate, moved like dinosaurs, and painted a 3D T-Rex!

DinoVolcano2Campers had an explosive last day of class on Friday as they learned where all the dinosaurs went. They got scientific, experimenting with magma recipes, mixing and testing ingredients, and teaming up to create a lava flow.

Although we’re a little sad to see the dinosaurs (and Dino-Mite Dino camp) go, KidsQuest is now teeming with pint-size actors and fluttering fairies! Keep an eye out for updates on our Storybook Theater and Fanciful Fairies camp – it’s sure to be a week full of imagination and fun!
